This was an awesome birthday gift to RP from Dave and Pamela, but I’m the one who’s going to have fun using all the toys. (RP will definitely benefit, though)
You’d think that since we love Mexican food so much that we’d already have a tortilla press and a tortilla warmer, but we don’t! I…
Low’s new song, from their album coming out later this year, is quite nice. It sits squarely within a subset Low songs—i.e., more upbeat tunes that go in the opposite direction of morose or narcoleptic (though I like their morose and narcoleptic songs too). Because I find myself in a good place with Low right now, I was spurred to put together a little mix of some of their peppier tunes.
back in 2008, i was fortunate to meet, share a van, lots of time, and the stage with the guys from all india radio - a great band out of melbourne au. they recently released a new record called, the silent surf - which has a limited vinyl release. you can stream it/buy it over at their bandcamp site. its great stuff! here are a couple of pics from spending time in the AZ desert and eating gigantic burritos :) we had a great time with them in AZ and the summer of 2009, they invited us to play in australia for their album launch. i couldnt make the trip, but digital dave (aka tim;s sampler) went in my honor and to represent flawlessly.
great guys, who write fantastic music. congrats on the new album gents!
joan of arc is playing in new york tonight. bummed that I missed their last show a couple of weeks ago where they played 2 owls tracks, and closed with let’s wrestle! i’ve been a joan of arc fan for a long time, and the first two records are still my favorite.
if this wasnt the first three mile pilot song that i ever heard, it was definitely the first three mile pilot song that I loved. rob price, i owe you for allowing me to put this tune on repeat for hours that day. its still one of my favorites.
Three Mile Pilot - On A Ship To Bangladesh
pamela just finished reading the new (and very beautiful) jay-z book - decoded, which she thought was really good. i havent had the chance, but will likely tackle it next. anyhow, after completing it, we sat and discussed jay-z and it brought me back to the first record i owned of his: the dead presidents single. the song is a perfect representation of that era of hip hop and had a beautiful melody. we looked it up, and found the sample that he used was from a tune called “a garden of peace” by lonnie liston smith.
